OK, i need to say it. the optional stealth section is mechanically broken. Outside of the already difficult windows from which to slip by, many of the guards have x-ray vision and can see you beyond walls, which makes certain sections even tighter, and then sometimes a guard's path will be randomly disrupted and the player has to learn an entirely new pattern to cope.
Time to get into more specific, individual examples. Trying to get into the southern room appears to be guarded by just 1, but in reality 3 guards man that post. the first blond guard can cover the same range as the purple haired one who is meant to do the same job, despite the wall, and equally, the purple haired doing a block in the hallway next door only makes the window ever tighter as she also has xray for the 2 movement she stares down the same hall.
Though it has only happened once so far, the orange haired guard manning the north west room got stuck in the lockers and disrupted the redhead's route. Thankfully, it only happened when i needed to get to his door and was fixed reloading the room.
The first purple-haired guard can then look into the same locker room through the wall reducing the safe spots in that small cubby to 1.
Next, the second purplehaired guard patrolling the hall consistently has a single line patrol route until colliding with the blonde guard manning the north east door before fixing herself back into her box formation. Oh, and the first purple haired guard extend her vision into that same hallway.
oops, meant as a continuation of my below complaint...
Then the first purple haired guard's sight even extends into the range of the second guard with the same discription, who has her own problems. She consistently starts running a single line until making contact with the blonde guarding the north east room, before returning to her "normal" box route.
Finally, that only leaves an issue with the guard of the eastmost room, who by himself doesnt have a problem, but when combined with the fact that he STARTS by looking into the doorway he guards, he is the devil, resetting the player's progress completely if you get caught in the room he guards.
Which finally segues into my final, separate complaint about how the section handles checkpoints and giving up. There is a checkpoint in each side room, as getting caught puts you in the doorway on the other side, but the same cant be said for the main room. If you are EVER caught in the main room, even by guards with xray, you are sent back to the start (with fragments still in hand). Many of the problems with the section would be mitigated if the game simply respawned you at your LAST door
All respawning at the start does is needlessly frustrate the player as they have to get back to where they last were through an already difficult stealth section relying on near perfect timing, and thanks to a less important bug in how respawning works, the one chance to give up comes up far too soon with no later chance for frustrated players to give up.
(respawning bug: the game does not truly move the player to their respawn point until EVERY guard [even xray ones] who could see them has done their shouting and fade to black unless the player manually overrides it with the "cant retreat" dialogue box before the next one triggers).
My rant is just about over now, with 3 main complaints to takeawy: the entire section is crazy buggy, entering doors should be their own respawn point regardless of which side you entered, and the singular possible path through the main room is too difficult to expect players to constantly replay the same sub-segments of it over and over and over again without giving players free choice on when to abandon the attempts.
And then the reward... All that brute force to finally come out on top, and now i need to replay it in a future update to get anything out of it... Not really a complaint, just more frustration at a needlessly difficult thing that doesnt compare to any other part of the game.
